Self Assessment

Honestly, I was expecting to do a lot worse with that self-assessment for my Japanese class but hey you got to start somewhere I guess. But even though I’ve only been studying Japanese for a few weeks I kind of surprised myself with the results even though they are low it is a good starting point for me I guess you could say. And while looking at the tasks I realized that I completed little to none of them. I don’t know how to ask questions or tell someone where I was today. But really the performance descriptors for a beginner really didn’t surprise me at all.

The assessment was a lot more helpful than I expected it to be, it didn’t only ask questing about what I could do as a novice learning Japanese but it also asked questions about what a novice learning Japanese should know and should know how to do it. I did better than I expected and I am happy about that but now it looks like I need to work on my presentation skills considering I got a 4 for both speaking and writing assessments and as for my communication skills it looks like I will need to work harder because I got a 6 on Interpersonal listing and speaking while with reading and writing I got a 5 on the self-assessment. Oh well.

Right now my goal is to get past Novice Low and into Novice Mid. Doing it this way I think it would be easier to break it up into sections and once I get past Novice Mid I would start working on Novice High. But one of my goals for this class is to learn how to speak Japanese and try holding a basic conversation with that person. Because I really don’t just want to tell people my name and just leave it at that, no one of my main goals is to have a conversation telling that person what my hobbies are and where I am from, and so on.

My other results for the self-assessment were 9 on the interpretive listing and viewing section and 5 on the interpretive reading section.
