Ethnography: Cultural Autobiography
Well, I guess you could say it all started when I was attending a private catholic school for preschool through 8th grade. I started going there when I was 5 or 6 years old going into preschool I had a sister at the time who would watch amine and I would go into the room to watch with her but she will never admit to it I think that is when I got interested the Asian culture in general. Time skip to July 15, 2012, when I was 10 years old. When the song Gangnam Style by PSY was released and it took the hold world by storm this is the first song that actually got me interested in artists from different parts of the world other than America or Canada. But as soon I did research on the dark side of the entertainment agencies, I found out that trainees are going to the extreme with dieting, practicing 18 hours or more a day, and getting threats from people that don’t like them because they are not pretty enough or they're to fat to match to Idol standard. It’s just wrong in my opinion. Time skip to 2014 the end of my 7th-grade year I was 12 at this time at this point I was just waiting to go on the annual vacation that my family would do every summer just to go see grandma on my dad's side who lives in Nebraska because I was tired of the city and just wanted to get away from it for a while. A few days after we got there we went to the mall and in there I was able to find a Barnes and Noble bookstore while looking I found a book that caught my attention it was called Fairy Tail and I honestly thought it was going to be about all the old fairy tales but oh no was I wrong. When we got back to my grandma's house I was able to read through the whole in under an hour and when I went to look up the next volume on the internet I found out that it was called manga which is a style of the graphic novel and Japanese comic books aimed at children and adults and was created in the 19th century. Okay time skip to 2017 I was 15 at the time and while I was doing my homework for school I dedicated to take a break and get something from the kitchen and while I was there I saw my mom watching the AMA’s award show so I decided to join her as I got in there the next performance was getting ready to start. And I was just amazed by this groups dancing and singing abilities but as I watched them I heard the crowd starting to chant something I wasn’t able to make out what it was but as the performance came to an end I heard the host of the AMA’s award show say thank you to the group called BTS for coming. These are the main experiences that I have had with other cultures or at least the experiences that left a big impact on me.
Ah, anime, the gateway drug to Asian studies! Did you read the rest of the Fairy Tale series? Have you seen that anime? It has sooooo many episodes! Which is awesome, because so often you get invested in a story and characters and it only last one season, and there is so much story they could tell with them.
